| dc.description.abstract | The thesis examines how political economy influences the governance of small-scale fishing, impacting the current state of fisheries resources, food systems, and livelihoods in these communities. The government promotes small-scale fishing as a vital component in alleviating poverty, unemployment, food insecurity, and inequality while fostering sustainable livelihoods through the implementation of the Small-Scale Fisheries Policy (SSFP). This policy provides a framework for action and a governance model designed to achieve various ideal outcomes. Understanding the connections between fisheries governance, fishing operations, and food systems is crucial for shaping interventions that enhance livelihoods and food security within small-scale fishing communities. Analysing the existing systems and relationships is essential for identifying areas that require reform in the regulatory environment, strengthening the food systems and livelihoods of small-scale fishers, and promoting sustainable fishing practices. | |
