Introduction: Physical fitness and anthropometric characteristics are key determinants of successful performance in sports. It is therefore imperative that these qualities be tested several times, especially at the start and conclusion of a competitive season, as it provides coaches with the necessary information about the effectiveness of their training programmes, to allow sports persons to peak at the right times. The two-factor of physical activity and exercise model was used as the theoretical base for this study. Aim: The aim of this research was to examine the changes in anthropometric and physical fitness characteristics of club netball players during a netball season. Methods: The research design that was employed was a cross sectional, descriptive and comparative design, to describe and compare the anthropometric and fitness characteristics of the club level netball players over one full season. Three clubs were randomly selected from the netball Super League in Gauteng Province. The anthropometric characteristics, including skinfolds, stature mass and body composition, were measured. Physical fitness characteristics evaluated included speed, explosive leg power, upper body strength as well as agility. Informed consent was obtained from all participants prior to any data collection.
