| dc.description.abstract | Background: The aim of pulp therapy in paediatric dentistry is to prevent early extraction of the primary tooth and maintain normal eruption and occlusion. Root canal treatment is performed when an irreversible pulpitis or pulp necrosis is encountered. All microbes present in the oral cavity have the potential to invade the root canal. Historically, zinc oxide-eugenol has been used widely as a root canal filling material. Lately, however, Vitapex® has been recommended as a root canal filling material. Although Vitapex® shows high clinical success rates, it is resorbed rapidly within the root canal and causes a hollow canal. Mixed primary root canal filling (MPRCF) is a mixed material of zinc oxide-eugenol, calcium hydroxide, and iodoform. A randomised clinical trial reposted that MPRCF has a high clinical success rate and concluded that it can be an alternative root canal filling in primary teeth. Despite this, there are no other studies that evaluate MPRCF. | |
