Abstract

The much anticipated second wave of the coronavirus has finally reached. Last night, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize declared the second wave, following the highest recorded number of cases in a 24-hour period. The Western Cape has been seen as one of the main drivers in the resurgence of cases, carrying 30 percent of the country’s cases. Minister Mkhize also announced that the age group 15 - 19 years showed the highest number of cases over the past two days. This is due to them attending large gatherings that lack social distancing, wearing of face masks and other covid-19 safety interventions. Does the numbers correspond with the predictions from virologists? We are now joined by Professor Bertrum Fielding. He is part of the UWC team of global experts researching Corona and Sars-virus since 2003.
