Abstract

The prevalence of odontogenic tumours differs worldwide, with different countries reporting a difference in age, gender and types of tumours seen in their respective population groups. The changing classification systems of odontogenic tumours also impacts the prevalence and frequency distribution of these tumours. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of odontogenic tumours in South Africa, at Tygerberg Oral Health Centre, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) classification. The secondary objectives were then to determine the demographics of these tumours in the South African population serviced by the Tygerberg Oral Health Centre and the most common location of these tumours within the maxilla and mandible.
