Unequal pay for equal work: the case for equal pay for the South African women’s senior national football team

Abstract

This study investigates the policies and practices of the South African Football Association (SAFA) relating to terms and conditions, and specifically the differences in pay between the senior national teams, Bafana Bafana (men) and Banyana Banyana (women). The study questions whether SAFA’s unequal payment of the men and women’s senior national teams constitutes unfair discrimination in terms of the applicable law.
