dc.description.abstractBackground: Patient safety is crucial to the maintenance of healthcare quality and has become a main concern for healthcare organizations around the world. The nurses’ role is to preserve safety and prevent harm to patients during the provision of care in both clinical and hospital care settings. Aim: The aim of the study is to investigate the perspectives of final year nursing students on how patient safety is addressed in nursing education at a selected university in the Western Cape. Method: A quantitative descriptive research design was used. The sample consisted of final year nursing students (n=145) who completed the Health Professional Education in Patient Safety Survey (H-PEPSS) scale (α=.72), rating level of agreement on confidence in patient safety education. The data were captured, cleaned and analyzed using SPSS (Version 28) and descriptive statistics were used to describe the data.
