dc.description.abstractThe Rural Development Company (LANOK) is an organisation that does community development, including social and economic development, in the rural areas of the Western Cape, and that can be seen as an information-intensive organisation that maintains and deploys an extensive knowledge base It has undergone significant changes during the past eight years. The organisation is accountable to the Western Cape government where the seed capital for the organisation is held. In the old South Africa the nationalist government created a development agency in every province. Each agency's mandate was development in rural areas. The culture in these organisations was predominantly white, male, Afrikaner culture.
