dc.description.abstractSubstance abuse contributes towards mental illness as part of the global burden of disease. In South Africa, substance abuse presents amongst learners at secondary schools. Substance use affects academic performance negatively and disrupts cognitive, emotional, social, and psychological functioning. Social support has been known to ameliorate the deleterious effects of substance abuse. This study aimed to investigate the perceived social support of learners at risk of substance abuse at two selected high schools in Cape Town.en_US
