dc.description.abstractBackground: The University of the Western Cape, together with four other universities have called on the administration of the University of the North (Turfloop) “to avoid the use of force and coercion against students.” In a joint statement issued by the rectors of the universities of Western Cape, Wits, Natal, Rhodes and Cape Town, the rectors that interference by outside agencies in the affairs of a university jeopardized the functioning of the institution.
