This calendar serves to highlight the neglect suffered by acid sand coastal fynbos on the Cape Flats. The species illustrated are all by well-known Cape artist, Elise Bodley van Wyk and are typical of this habitat, reflecting the wide variety of plant form occurring here. The attractive Erica ferrea is highly threatened and deservedly has been placed on the cover. Leucadendron lignum, Phylica stipularis, Staavia radiata, Struthiola striata and Diosma oppositifolia typify this habitat throughout most of its range, while others, for example Ixia paniculata on the Rondebosch Common, are locally abundant.
