This study explored the role of religion in conflict transformation in Northern Nigeria with specific reference to the Nigeria Baptist Convention. The purpose of the study was to investigate the ways in which the Nigerian Baptist Convention has addressed the challenge of ethno-religious conflict in Northern Nigeria. The study specifically sought to explore how the Nigerian Baptist Convention understands conflict transformation and what factors shape their understanding and involvement in addressing ethno-religious conflict. The background to this study was the ethnic and religious diversity of Northern Nigeria and the various incidents of ethno-religious conflict, at least since the 1980s, which have resulted in tension, insecurity, and mutual suspicions among the major two religions in Northern Nigeria namely, Christianity and Islam. Given the widely recognized view regarding the ambivalence of religion in conflict, this study drew on the concepts of conflict transformation and the ambivalence of religion in conflict.
