Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) describes devices with sensors, processing ability, software and other technologies that connect and exchange data with other devices and systems over the Internet or other communication networks. IoT's ability to gather data from sensors and systems has assisted in improving efficiency, and its integration across sectors has contributed to economic growth in developed countries. Sectors such as security, banking and aviation are currently enjoying the integration of IoT in South Africa and other developing countries, while other industries such as warehousing, manufacturing and agriculture are yet to fully integrate IoT and enjoy its benefits. The existing literature on IoT lacks comprehensive examination of factors influencing the adoption of IoT in the warehouse industry. This study explored the factors influencing the adoption of IoT for warehouse management, using the Technology Organisation and Environment (TOE) framework as the basis of this study. The findings of this study revealed that adoption of IoT in warehouse management in the Western Cape is influenced by environmental, technological and organisational factors.
