dc.description.abstract | On 31 December 2019, the first cases of the coronavirus, Covid-19, were identified in Wuhan City, China. Its dramatic rate of transmission and deadly effects soon led to the city’s shutdown, but not before it took wing and, borne by travellers, began alighting in other countries. Very quickly it spread throughout Asia and Europe and then further afield to North America, South America, Africa, and Australasia. By the beginning of March 2020, nearly every country in the world had recorded cases of infection, and on 11 March 2020 the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Covid-19 a pandemic. | en_US |
