dc.description.abstract | This thesis provides a critical analysis of the legal profession regulation in Addis Ababa, with a specific focus on the role of paralegals in addressing existing barriers. Through an extensive literature review, the study first explores the multifaceted nature of access to justice, emphasizing the significance of legal assistance while addressing issues related to its availability and affordability. As further foundation, the research evaluates various theoretical frameworks, highlighting the limitations of the conventional rule of law paradigm and the promise of a human rights-based approach. The potential of paralegals as alternative legal service providers to overcome these barriers is also discussed in this regard. Subsequently, the study investigates the current state of access to justice in Ethiopia, examining the constitutional basis, justice sector policies, legislative framework, and the institutions and human resources involved in delivering legal services. The main discussion of the paper is comparative analysis of the human rights legal framework and experience of foreign jurisdictions. Drawing upon international and regional human rights instruments, the research advocates for the integration of paralegals into the justice system. | |
