| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study is to outline the socio-economic rights of refugees in South Africa with a particular emphasis on their rights to education, housing and health care. The study aims to explore whether the current treatment of refugees in South Africa is in accordance with existing international norms and standards for the protection of refugees. The study focuses on the realisation of the above-mentioned socio-economic rights in order to measure the treatment. The study also seeks to address the obstacles which prevent the full and proper treatment of refugees, and to make recommendations as to how South Africa can better regulate the treatment of refugees living in its territory. In essence, the study aims to investigate whether there is an inconsistency between the rights of refugees acknowledged in international law, and in South African domestic law and the current situation of refugees in South Africa, and, if so, how this can be remedied | en_US |
