Abstract

One of the sources of stress at work is job insecurity. Job Insecurity has been attributed to reduced job performance and job satisfaction as well as an increase in health-related issues such as well-being. The objective of the study was an investigation into the role of sense of coherence in the relationship between job insecurity and well-being of independent financial advisers working under supervision in South Africa. The design of the survey was cross-sectional. A random sample (n = 213) was selected from independent, supervised individuals working in the financial services industry. The 12- item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12), the 20-item Orientation to Life Questionnaire (OLQ- 29), and the eight-item South African validated Job Insecurity Scale (JIS-8) were administered as self-report questionnaires to measure well-being, sense of coherence, and job insecurity.
