International migrants were extremely vulnerable to pandemic precarity. Migrants in the South African informal food sector were severely impacted by the pandemic. A Pandemic Precarity Scale (PPS) is proposed for quantifying the impact on informal food enterprise. Three-quarters of the surveyed enterprises experienced intense pandemic precarity. A policy environment that mitigates informal pandemic precarity is essential to post-pandemic recovery.
