The research conducted was an evaluation study of a training programme for early intervention facilitators with autistic children. Autistic Disorder is a developmental disorder affecting sufferers in three primary areas: Communication, social interaction and behaviour (often characterised by restriction and repetition). Children on the spectrum often experiences diffrculties with learning and cognition. There are, however, a limited number of special needs schools available in South Africa. There is a discrepancy between the number of schools available and the growing number of children diagnosed with ASD each year.en_US
