dc.description.abstract | High levels of free oxygen radicals, induced by many biological or environmental factors, result in damage and dysfunction of the mitochondria which causes cardiovascular and other diseases. Cardiotherapies employing antioxidants has been suggested to be a useful approach to scavenge excess reactive oxygen species (ROS). Many phytomedicines have antioxidant properties. The outcome of many clinical trials in which phytomedicines were used is however often disappointing. | |
