Abstract

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is referred to as cancers that arise in the colon or rectum. Rectal cancer is most often defined as cancers originating within 15 cm from the anal verge. The crude incidence of CRC in sub-Sahara African populations has been found to be 4.04/100,000 (4.38 for men and 3.69 for women). CRC stage correlates well with survival/cure rates with the majority of patients diagnosed with CRC presenting with advanced disease and a low survival/cure rate.
