| dc.description.abstract | Motorcycle-related head injuries are the leading cause of death, severe injury and disability among motorcycle users globally. In order to define and implement appropriate management of motorcycle-related head injuries, reliable data is required. Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) receive many patients with motorcycle-related head injuries but an in depth study on the role played by health professionals such as physiotherapists in their management is not available. Thus the purpose of the study was to investigate the role of physiotherapists in the management of motorcycle-related head injuries at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kenya. A sequential explanatory mixed method design was utilized. A quantitative approach was used to determine the prevalence of motorcycle-related head injuries and to examine the referral tendency of these patients for physiotherapy management. A qualitative approach was employed to explore the physiotherapists’ perceptions regarding their role in the management of motorcycle-related head injuries and the challenges encountered when managing such patients. | |
