dc.description.abstract | Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the second most common age-related neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s disease, with an estimated 9 million people projected to be affected worldwide by the year 2030. PD is associated with numerous motor symptoms such as tremor, bradykinesia (slowness of movements), hypokinesia (reduction in movement amplitude) and akinesia (absence of normal unconscious movements). However, in addition to these motor symptoms, several nonmotor manifestations are common, such as sensory symptoms (pain, tingling), hyposmia, sleep disturbance, depression, and cognitive impairment. | en_US |
