Abstract

Introduction: On 15 June 2010 the 99th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) adopted proposals for a Convention, supplemented by a Recommendation, on decent work for domestic workers. From this has emanated a draft Convention and Recommendation, to be debated by member states and representative organisations of employers and workers around the world, from which proposed amendments will emerge. Once adopted by the ILC in 2011, a Convention will require ratifying member states to formulate and implement laws or other measures to provide domestic workers with the stipulated protection
