South African Crime Quarterly, 33: 11 - 172413-3108http://hdl.handle.net/10566/2203Human and child trafficking is regarded as an international crime and serious human rights violation. However, the clandestine and transnational nature of trafficking makes it extremely difficult to apprehend or prosecute offenders, or to verify information about the scope and nature of the problem. This article highlights some concerns regarding conceptual and definitional problems, as well as the seeming international preoccupation with trafficking, in an attempt to position the issue within the larger context of other global human rights abuses.enThis journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)United Nations Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking (UNGIFT)International Organisation for Migration (IOM)Salvation ArmyChild traffickingInternational Labour Organisation (ILO)Human traffickingChildren's rightsHuman rightsAbuseLegislationDon't shout too loud: Reflections on the outrage against human and child traffickingArticle
