GDPR and Health Data" and "Data sharing & biobanks"(Universty of the Western Cape, 2018) Loideain, Nora Ni; Staunton, CiaraItem A health informatics model for user-centred design using a positive deviance approach: A case for diabetes self-management(University of the Western Cape, 2020) Petersen, Fazlyn; Pather, Shaun; Tucker, William D.Over the past twenty years there have been substantive efforts across the African continent to ensure penetration and reach of mobile technology to the citizenry. However there continues to be a debate on precisely how developmental outcomes may be forged through this escalating penetration of communications technologies. This paper responds to the question of how development outcomes in the area of health, and specifically that of diabetes mellitus, can be achieved through the effective application of ICTs in the context of mobile applications. Diabetes Mellitus is a leading cause of morbidity in low-income and middle-income countries, with the number of patients projected to increase globally to 205 million by 2035. The increased number of patients in countries with limited resources requires innovative approaches to support a regime of patient self-management. In pursuance of this, and given the increasing pervasiveness of communications infrastructure amongst communities in South Africa, the role of Information and communications technology (ICT) in addressing the problem requires investigation. In particular, issues in relation to the adoption and effective use of ICTs, especially amongst previously disadvantaged and underserved communities, warrants exploration. The paper thus assesses the role of m-health at primary care level and posits a user-centred design approach to involve patients in designing an m-health intervention which meets their needs.Item A health informatics model for user-centred design using a positive deviance approach: a case for diabetes self-management(University of the Western Cape, 2020) Petersen, FazlynOver the past twenty years there have been substantive efforts across the African continent to ensure penetration and reach of mobile technology to the citizenry. Participants consisted of a convenience sample of students (N = 322) who completed the the five-item version of the trait scale of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, the Perceived Stress Scale, the nine-item version of the Beck Hopelessness Scale, the 10-item version of the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale, and the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist. We used classical test theory and item response theory (Rasch and Mokken analyses) to examine the psychometric properties of a previously proposed five-tem version of this scale. These approaches confirmed that the five-item measure of anxiety had satisfactory reliability and validity, and also confirmed that the five-items comprised a unidimensional scale.Item Athlone in mind(University of the Western Cape, 2019) Grunebaum, Heidi; Campbell, Kurt; Lalu, PremeshItem Barely explained - National coronavirus lockdown: We speak with an expert(University of the Western Cape, 2020) Fielding, Burtram C.Item Behind the scenes: The editor's experience(University of the Western Cape, 2018) Snyders, MarkItem Building portable pipelines for reproducible scientific workflows: The H3ABionet Pipelines Project on E n(Universty of the Western Cape, 2018) Hazelhurst, ScottItem Circuit breakers the mini lockdown needed for hotspots(University of the Western Cape, 2020) Fielding, Burtram C.Item Combat-tb: an integrated environment for m tuberculosis data analysis(Universty of the Western Cape, 2018) Van Heusden, PeterItem Common characteristics of thesis repositories at 24 universities in South Africa(University of the Western Cape, 2021) Snyders, MarkItem Community building - Lessons from The Carpentries(Universty of the Western Cape, 2018) Ajilogba, CarolineItem Community driven training for biological data analysis with the galaxy training network(Universty of the Western Cape, 2018) Batut, BéréniceItem Contributors to institutional success: A participatory reflection on achieving strategy through operational excellence(University of the Western Cape, 2022) Mente-Mpako, AnelisaItem Covid-19 AMA (Ask Me Anything)(University of the Western Cape, 2020) Fielding, Burtram C.; Kiewit, Lester; Goldstein, SueItem COVID-19 schools of thought(University of the Western Cape, 2020) Fielding, Burtram C.
